One hundred percent wool.
Nothing else.
An Elosegui beret is merino wool. No hidden polyester, no acrylic. Never has been. The fabric handles rain, insulates against cold, breathes and ages with dignity — three things synthetic fibres struggle with.
Australian merino
The fleece comes from New South Wales, where the merino sheep lives on dry plateaus and clean pastures. The fibre is extremely fine (a few microns in diameter), curly, and able to absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without losing dry touch.
Each year, Elosegui receives fleece in 80 kg bales. Before reaching the factory, the wool has already been washed at origin. In Tolosa it is opened, spun and knit.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
The wool entering our machines carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification: no substances harmful to skin, traceability from the flock, compliance with European sustainable textile standards.
The factory also holds ISO 9001 quality management, renewed in 2022. These aren’t decorative seals: they’re the reason our military and institutional clients can buy from us without further paperwork.
How to care for it
- Do not machine wash. Merino wool felts under mechanical movement. If your beret gets caught in rain, let it air-dry on a flat surface.
- Brush against the nap. A soft clothing brush restores volume and removes dust. Once a month is enough.
- Store flat. Never under a weight. In a wide drawer, on a towel, away from prolonged direct light.
- Spot stains. Lukewarm water with neutral soap, at the tip of a cloth. Air dry.
A well-cared beret lasts several decades. Ours tend to pass on to grandchildren before reaching the textile bin.
